Ukraine Fossil-Fuel CO2 EmissionsTrendsThe Ukraine, with roughly 47 million people, is the world's 20th largest emitter of CO2 from fossil-fuel consumption and cement production with 87 million metric tons of carbon in 2006. Since becoming an independent republic, the Ukraine's fossil-fuel and cement-related CO2 emissions have plummeted 48% and population has declined from over 50 million people. Per capita emissions have dropped from 3.2 metric tons of carbon in 1992, fifth highest among Eastern European nations and roughly three times the global average, to 1.86 metric tons of carbon in 2006.
