How to access CDIAC's Anonymous FTP Area via the internet

The instructions provided below are intended to assist PC users in viewing and downloading compressed files from within a browser (e.g., Netscape) session.

Return to the CDIAC Home Page (http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov).

In the "Location" window of your browser screen where the CDIAC Home Page URL is shown, change "http" to "ftp" ("Location" will change to "Go to") and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard.This will begin an ftp session.

With your mouse, locate and click on the "pub" directory. Similarly, proceed to the desired subdirectory containing the compressed file you wish to view and download. DO NOT click on the name of the file you wish to view and download; rather, edit the location that is shown by adding, after the final "/" (forward slash), the name of the file (WITHOUT the final ".Z") you wish to view and download. Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard; you will then view the file in its original (uncompressed) format. You can then use your browser to write the file to disk on your PC (use the "Save as..." command in the "File" menu).
