Third Stakeholders’ Workshop October 10, 2006

The SOCCR Coordinating Team has attempted to design the SOCCR to be useful for policy makers, scientists, business groups, environmental and related public interest groups. To supplement and complement the governmental and scientific review process, the Coordinating Team has sought comments and suggestions from all of these stakeholders. The process included two previous Stakeholder Workshops.

Several stakeholders participated in our First Stakeholders' Workshop in Arlington, Va., in November 2004, where we worked together to create a structure for the SOCCR that would present the information in the most useful format. After further public comment and revision, an interdisciplinary team of lead and contributing authors from public and private institutions was recruited and began work on creating the first draft of the SOCCR/SAP 2.2.

A second workshop was held in October 2005 in Alexandria, Va., to assist in reviewing and improving the early draft of the SOCCR/SAP 2.2. The workshop provided an opportunity for the stakeholders to provide input and feedback directly to the authors.

The SOCCR Coordinating Team convened a third workshop for Stakeholders to assist in reviewing the “public review draft” version of the document and to evaluate the effectiveness of the stakeholder-involvement aspects of the document’s overall preparation process. The workshop was held at the Washington Marriott in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, and was timed to coincide with the comment period for the “public review draft”(i.e., September 19 through November 3, 2006).
